Once you have finished just click on the AirPlay icon and choose Turn AirPlay Off.

You can now start playing the content on your Mac that you want to appear on the TV.

So to System Preferences and choose Mirror Built in Retina Display to see if that helps, or try Mirror which should give you the best settings for the TV.

If what you are seeing on the TV screen isn’t as clear as you’d like you can further tweak settings.

Still in the Displays > Arrangement view drag the second screen below or beside the primary screen so that the placement feels logical to you.

If you have chosen two separate displays you’ll want to arrange them in such a way as to make moving your mouse between the two screens less frustrating.

Find your Apple TV in the section under AirPlay 2 – it may be named after the room it is located in, depending on how you set it up.

Click on the AirPlay icon in your menu at the top of your screen (a rectangle with a triangle below).

Make sure your Apple TV and Mac are both on the same WiFi network – they need to both be connected to a WiFi network in order for the connection to be established (which is frustrating if there isn’t a WiFi network!).

Plug your Apple TV into an HDMI port on the back of your TV.
